Chi Am Circle has a brokerage account at Charles Schwab. Please ask your broker to make a transfer to us. Our account info:
Brokerage Firm: Charles Schwab
DTC # 0164, Code 40
Account Name: Chi Am Circle, Inc.
Account Number: 7208-7351
When the transfer is being initiated, please email the stock/mutual fund name and number of shares to sponsorship@chiamcircle.org. Provide your full name, email and home address so that we can issue a donation receipt.
Please note that brokerage firms are busiest processing stock donation transfers at the end of the year. If you want your donation to be tax deductible for the current tax year, Chi Am Circle recommends that you request the transfer before December 15th.
If you are over 70 1/2 in age, you can make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) to Chi Am Circle as a donation. A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian paid to a qualified charity. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year, as long as certain rules are met. The maximum annual amount that can qualify for a QCD is $100,000. For details on rules, see IRS pub. 590-B and link below:
https://www.irs.gov/retirement-plans/retirement-plans-faqs-regarding-iras-distributions-withdrawals
Each custodian has its own way of processing such requests. In general, you would complete their form and have “Chi Am Circle” as the “Payable To” on the check.
In addition to the benefits of giving to charity, a QCD excludes the amount donated from taxable income, which is unlike regular withdrawals from an IRA. Keeping your taxable income lower may reduce the impact to certain tax credits and deductions, including Social Security and Medicare. Please consult your tax adviser for details.
